
One of the most beautiful places in the city and the Botanical Garden. It is the oldest in Europe and was founded in 1543 by Grand Duke Cosimo I de 'Medici, who entrusted its construction to the physician and botanist Luca Ghini, Professor of Botany at the University of Pisa.
The Botanical Garden of Pisa, now consists of nine collections of plants and trees, one of which is formed by trees of historical significance including the two oldest specimens in Pisa, a Magnolia grandiflora L. and a Ginkgo biloba L. planted in 1787.
